Being a single parent is one of the most difficult tasks, especially if culture has influenced the way we view household chores.
Guillermo, a model father
Guillermo was always a very hardworking and responsible father in bringing home a living, despite the fact that making a living in such remote places is very complicated. But he counted on the love and support of his sweet wife, who helped him by taking care of their 5 children and with the household chores. They were a team. Sadly, however, his beloved wife passed away. That was a deep blow to Guillermo's heart. The pain of losing his wife was devastating. In addition, although he was very skilled at his job, he did not know how to take care of his children, nor how to manage his own home. No one taught him. In his culture, mothers teach these skills only to their female daughters, and men learn to work outside. In addition, it is frowned upon to become independent before marriage. How was he to handle the terrible grief of losing the one he loved most, and at the same time face the overwhelming challenge of being an inexperienced single father?
Guillermo sought Naru's guidance
Determined to take the best possible care of his 5 children, he sought support from NarĂº. Here he learned to grow vegetable gardens in his own home and learned about nutrition for his children. But his greatest pride and achievement was learning to cook. He makes it a point to attend the cooking training and he loves it! In addition, at each training, we share with the attendees the produce that has been harvested that day from our own garden. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and plants to cook and grow at home.
